Why We Send Our Team Across the World: Inside TaxStudio’s International Immersion Program

The goal is to build a more connected, global team.

Most of our work sits at the intersection of countries, teams, and perspectives.

We spend our time helping companies expand into the US, often from places like Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and beyond. While technical expertise is at the core of what we do, our ability to understand cultural nuances elevates the quality and effectiveness of our work. How people think, how they communicate, and how business gets done in different parts of the world.

Our International Immersion Program was born from this idea that if the level of cultural understanding matters for our clients, it should matter just as much for our team.

What is TSIIP?

TSIIP, the TaxStudio International Immersion Program, is a one-month placement in another TaxStudio office.

Team members apply, and if selected, they spend that time working directly with a different office. Today, that includes Austin, Boise, Lima, and Sydney.

The program is designed to integrate team members into real work, alongside a different TaxStudio team, in a new environment.

Why We Did It

Working across time zones, having regular all-hands meetings, and communicating over Slack gets the job done. But there is a level of detail that unfolds when you are working in person with your colleagues on the other side of the world. Sitting next to them, asking questions, and working through challenges together builds a deeper understanding that supports the work we do at TaxStudio.

TSIIP helps close those cultural gaps. And for that level of substance, we know it is worth the cost.

For individuals, it creates exposure that is hard to replicate any other way. Spending time in another country shifts how you think about business, clients, and your own work. That change happens naturally once you are in it day to day.

For the firm, it builds stronger connections between teams. People who have worked side by side communicate differently afterward. There is more clarity, more trust, and less friction.

How It Changes the Way We Work

The impact shows up in small ways at first, then compounds over time.

Teams get better at anticipating how others will approach a problem. Communication becomes more direct and more useful. There is less friction in understanding how other teams operate and what they are working through day to day.

It also changes how we interact with clients.

Our clients come from different regions, each with their own communication styles and expectations. Some are direct. Some are more measured. Some prioritize speed, others detail. That nuance becomes easier to navigate when you have spent time in those environments.

The result is a team that understands not just what to say, but how to say it.

Making the Most of It

Each TSIIP placement is planned in advance.

Participants work through a structured plan that includes:

  • The people they will work with

  • The types of projects they will be involved in

  • Exposure to clients where possible

  • Time with the local team outside of work

The goal is to make the month count. Everyone approaches it differently, but the expectation is the same. Be intentional with the time and take full advantage of being there.

What It Builds Over Time

The biggest change shows up over time.

People come back with a better read on situations, stronger communication skills, and a clearer understanding of how our clients operate. These are skills that are hard to teach directly, but they are critical in what we do.

As a firm, that carries through into how we collaborate and how we support clients across borders.

Final Thought

TSIIP reflects how we think about growth.

We want a team that understands the environments our clients operate in, not just from a distance, but from experience. This program is one way we are building that.

It is early, but it is already shaping how we work together and how we show up for clients.
